Separate elapsed and actual work time
Elapsed time runs from start to finish. Actual work time subtracts lunch and other unpaid breaks.
When breaks are entered as total minutes, add all separate breaks first.
- Elapsed = finish - start
- Actual = elapsed - breaks
- Accumulated = daily actual × workdays
Example: 09:00 to 18:00
The elapsed time is nine hours. Subtracting a 60-minute break leaves eight actual hours, or 40 hours across five identical days.
For late arrivals or early departures, calculate each day separately rather than relying on an average.
Overnight shifts
When the finish is earlier than the start, the calculator treats it as next-day finish. A 22:00 to 06:00 shift is eight elapsed hours.
Multi-day duty and overlapping rotations require the official time record rather than a simple daily estimate.
Pay and legal limits require separate rules
This is a personal time-recording estimate and does not decide overtime, night, holiday pay, or break compliance.
Payroll also needs wage definitions, premiums, paid breaks, and workplace rules. Use official attendance records as the final source.
