BARO TOOL PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to Place a Watermark without Hiding the Photo

A watermark that is too weak is easy to crop, while one that is too strong distracts from the image. Match placement to the purpose and keep the original separately.

01

Keep the watermark text short

Use a short owner name, site address, or copyright mark. Long text becomes unreadable on small screens and covers more of the photo.

Consider the public audience before adding contact details.

02

Balance position and opacity

Corner marks are less intrusive but easier to crop. For deterrence, place the mark nearer the subject without covering it completely, or consider repetition.

Use dark text on light areas and light text on dark areas, then adjust opacity for contrast.

  • Attribution: small corner mark
  • Deterrence: near-center or repeated
  • Readability: contrast with the background
03

Check size at the final image dimensions

The same text setting looks different across source resolutions. Preview at both desktop and mobile display sizes.

Baro Tool processes the result in the browser and saves PNG. Keep the original as a separate file.

04

A visible mark is not complete protection

Watermarks help attribution and deterrence but cannot technically prevent copying.

For valuable work, retain originals, capture metadata, and publication records, and consider sharing a lower-resolution version.
