How to Compare Ski Shuttle and Car Costs for a Season

The lower-cost choice changes between solo and shared travel. Shuttle cost normally grows per rider, while one car's cost can be divided, so distance and group size matter.

The two cost structures

Shuttle cost per trip is round-trip fare per person × travelers plus access or stop-parking cost. Car cost is distance ÷ real fuel economy × fuel price, plus tolls, resort parking, and optional wear.

Multiply each trip cost by expected visits for the season comparison.

  • Shuttle = rider fares + stop access
  • Car = fuel + tolls + parking + extras
  • Season total = trip cost × visits

Example: 180 km round trip for two

At 11 km/L and 1,700 won/L, fuel is about 27,800 won. Add 12,000 won in tolls and 5,000 won in other vehicle cost for about 44,800 won per car trip.

A 35,000-won shuttle fare for each of two riders plus 5,000 won access totals 75,000 won. The car is cheaper here, but the difference narrows for a solo traveler.

Real fuel economy and occupancy matter

Idling, winter traffic, and heavy loads can reduce fuel economy. Use a recent dashboard average from similar driving rather than the advertised figure.

Car cost is for one vehicle and falls per person as occupancy rises. Shuttle fare usually grows with every rider.

Judge time and safety separately

Driver fatigue, snow and ice, luggage, schedule flexibility, and shuttle cancellation are hard to price accurately.

When the cost difference is small, check weather, the current timetable, and cancellation rules, then prioritize safety and schedule fit.
