Apartment tool
Apartment Parking Congestion Calculator
Compare an apartment complex’s registered vehicles with its available parking spaces.
A simple capacity comparison, not a live count of empty spaces.
Demand greatly exceeds the number of spaces.
Apartment parking overview
Read capacity and missing spaces together
Use figures from the same period
Enter households, parking spaces and registered vehicles. Avoid combining an old vehicle register with a newer space count where possible.
Start with capacity
Capacity is parking spaces divided by registered vehicles. Below 100% means there are too few spaces if every registered vehicle parks at once.
Compare shortfall with household figures
Review missing or surplus spaces alongside spaces and cars per household. The grade is this tool’s category, so compare it with actual time-of-day usage.
A worked example
420 spaces for 900 registered cars
- Start with
- 612 households / 420 spaces / 900 registered vehicles
- Check the result
- Approximately 46.7% capacity, 480 missing spaces and a 53.3% shortage rate
The shortfall assumes every registered vehicle parks simultaneously. These inputs produce the tool’s Critical grade.
